Ghent /ˈdʒɛnt/ is a census-designated place in Raleigh County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2010 census, its population was 457.The community's name commemorates the Treaty of Ghent. On January 30, 2007, the Flat Top Little General Store on U.S. Route 19 exploded, killing four people and injuring several others, near the Winterplace Ski Resort.The climate in this area has mild differences between highs and lows, and there is adequate rainfall year-round. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Ghent has a marine west coast climate, abbreviated "Cfb" on climate maps. The small community is also accompanied by 3 local churches,Ghent elementary school,the local fire department and post office, 2 general stores, a small locally owned restaurant,two small rental stores, The Ski barn and The Ski Shop as well as a hotel.It is located directly off the exit to Ghent and is known as a small well knit community of friends and families.
